Space opera Universe- Are we oblivious to the fact that we might as well be living in one?

Samantha woke up to the swishing sound of her cleaning robot which was programmed to carry out its function at a particular time of the day irrespective of the events unfolding around it. On looking out the window of her climate controlled home she saw empty streets as far as her eyes could see. Wait what was that? A lone bird flying through the empty streets. She was confused for a second as to where she was, in another realm or very much down on earth in the city of Zikaria somewhere in the Middle East bordering an European country.

She and her husband both worked with a media conglomerate, her husband a renowned photographer was away covering the nearby human conflict or shall we say the war. No amount of sophisticated drones, camera lens or the ultimate processors and apps could hide or change the pain ravaged faces of the migrants, orphans or the bleak environment caused by destruction by missiles and other weapons. Lately while photographing he was wearing a specialised mask to save himself from radioactive hazard! If they could FaceTime each other at such times , he looked like an alien.

Conflict in all forms - physical, chemical and biological, virus labs, vaccines, nuclear power plants, migrants and intolerance had become a global phenomenon; Seclusion pervaded and had been magnified with the lockdowns.  In the face of AI and mechanical ascendancy, doorbells became silent and life turned about to kind of flourish online, remotely! Nearly everything from education of students to work thrived mainly online as did media. It seemed for a couple of years that we were living in an isolated spaceship with human connections limited to online video calls .

What had become of the earth, our planet? what exactly  was this, had life turned around three sixty degrees were we living out a space opera?

Looking at the events that unfold around us, there is a good possibility that everything mentioned here might come true.

Love the way you express your thoughts. You have painted a very grim but clear picture of what is in store for us in the near future. What indeed has become of our planet? We have only ourselves to blame for what has gone wrong with our planet. We have to now reap what we had sown.
